Made by Steam Gauge and Lantern Company in Syracuse, N.Y. This is a mid 1880s fire department model with slide off 3 ring guard. Tin and copper fount , tin portion is copper plated ( but only 50% of plating remains) Fount is marked FIRE DEPT. on the front S.G.&L.Co on the back Also hallmarked on the bottom. Brass Tag on bottom edge for COMO F.D. Possibly Como Fire department from North Carolina. Heavy solder on the bottom usually indicates it was mounted on an apparatus hook bracket . This solder is old and not a repair of any . Globe is nicely cast for SG&L Syracuse with No.0 Tubular on the reverse . Condition - excellent display presence, untouched barn fresh.
